It is with a mix of gratitude and respect that we announce the resignation of Dr Rawiri McKree Jansen (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Hinerangi) from his role as Chief Medical Officer. Following dedicated service since August 2022, Rawiri will step down from his position to pursue new avenues to improving the health outcomes for Māori.
National Director Hauora Māori Services, Riana Manuel describes Rawiri as a rare taonga for the kaupapa of hauora Māori and acknowledged his commitment as a truly exceptional example for everyone.
“There are no words to express my profound gratitude to Rawiri, for all that he has done and all that I know he will continue to do for the health of whānau,” says Riana.
“I will be forever grateful for his leadership, determination and true expression of mana motuhake.
“Throughout his tenure, Rawiri has advocated tirelessly for the wellbeing of whānau and spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at addressing the inequities in Māori health, championing those kaupapa that support hauora Māori partners and translating key health messages so that they would resonate with whānau.”
“Whilst we are saddened by his departure, he goes with our aroha and support to whatever future endeavours he decides to embark on,” says Riana.
His last day will be on 12 May 2024.
